About Slow Food Phoenix

Slow Food is a non-profit, eco-gastronomic, membership organization that educates people about how their food choices affect the rest of the world (Slow Food Manifesto). Slow Food has grown into a large-scale international movement, with over 100,000 members in 100 countries on 5 continents. The Slow Food Network includes over 800 Convivia and Condotta around the world.

Slow Food U.S.A. is a non-profit educational organization dedicated to supporting and celebrating the food traditions of the many cultures living in the United States. There are more than 18,000 members in 180 chapters in the United States, including three chapters in Arizona - Slow Food Northern Arizona, Slow Food Tucson, and Slow Food Phoenix.

Slow Food Phoenix chapter members range from professional chefs to home cooks who enjoy the philosophy and the food of the Slow Food Movement. We are interested in ensuring that our food is good, clean and fair through the following programs:

 

  • Educating families about local foods and food traditions including an annual Mesquite Milling event
  • Educating youth through our Slow Food in Schools Projects
  • Preserving Arizona's traditional and heirloom seeds, vegetables and meat through projects such as the Churro Lamb Presidia and the RAFT Local Farmers Seed Grow Out
  • Supporting local farmers and producers through farm tours, special dinners,
    other educational events and donations
  • Encouraging the consumption of local, sustainable, fair and humanely-raised foods
    while celebrating the pleasures of the table.
